Engineer Your Future Program (Dhis Mustaqbalkaada Injineeriyada)
In many secondary schools across Somalia, science education is predominantly delivered through traditional, theory-centered instruction, with limited access to laboratory facilities, experimental apparatus, and practical learning resources. This constraint restricts students’ opportunities to engage in inquiry-based learning, often resulting in surface-level understanding, rote memorization, and weak conceptual linkage between core subjects—particularly Physics, Mathematics, and ICT—and their real-world applications. Consequently, learners may lack the practical competence and career awareness required to pursue STEM pathways with confidence.
To address this critical gap, the Jamhuriya STEM Center organized the Build Your Engineering Future Program for Grade 12 students, providing a structured, curriculum-aligned experiential learning opportunity. The program strengthened students’ comprehension of Physics through hands-on experiments, guided demonstrations, and laboratory-based activities grounded in the national curriculum. By integrating practical exposure with academic content, the program effectively bridged the divide between classroom theory and engineering practice, enhanced students’ scientific literacy, and contributed to informed decision-making regarding future STEM and engineering careers.
Girls in STEM Program
Empowering Somali Girls and Vulnerable Groups through STEM
Jamhuriya STEM Center successfully organized the Girls in STEM Program to empower Somali girls and vulnerable groups by increasing their access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In many communities, girls face social, economic, and educational barriers that limit their participation in STEM, even when they have strong potential and interest. This program was designed to respond to that gap by creating a safe and encouraging space for learning, growth, and inspiration.
During the program, participants were introduced to STEM through hands-on activities, practical demonstrations, mentorship, and positive role models. The girls engaged directly with laboratories and technology tools and took part in real-world problem-solving tasks that helped them understand how STEM connects to everyday life and future careers. As a result, participants gained confidence, built practical skills, and developed stronger motivation to continue learning and pursuing STEM opportunities.

High-Level Delegation Visit from Ministry of Education
We were pleased to host a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Education, led by the Director General of the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Mr. Mohamed Hassan Mukhtaar, accompanied by the Director of the Adult Education Department, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Abdirahman, the Ministry's advisor Eng. Abdirakadir, and several officials from the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
The delegation toured the various laboratories of the University as well as the Jamhuriya Incubation Center (JIC), and held a productive meeting with the University administration, particularly the Faculty of Engineering. During the meeting, both sides agreed to establish cooperation aimed at enhancing training and skills development for the new generation of Somalis, to better prepare them for the labor market and the advancement of technology.

Engineering Excellence Program
The Build Your Engineering Future Program bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, empowering Grade 12 students to explore the exciting world of engineering and technology. Through hands-on experiments, interactive workshops, and direct engagement with cutting-edge laboratory equipment, participants gain practical insights into how STEM principles shape our modern world.
Students experience firsthand the innovation happening in our engineering laboratories, interact with advanced technology, and witness projects developed by current engineering students. This immersive program inspires the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators, helping them discover their passion for STEM and understand the transformative impact of engineering on society and sustainable development.
